Software Freeday Day 2025 celebration

The Software Freedom Day event is organised on September 23, 2025, at 11 AM at the IIRBS Auditorium, Mahatma Gandhi University. Dr Anas S., Joint Director, IIRBS, and Associate Professor, School of Chemical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, chaired the program. Dr Vimal Kumar V., Secretary, Kerala Library Association, Kottayam Region, delivered the welcome speech. The programme jointly organised by the Democratic Alliance for Knowledge Freedom, IIRBS-Mahatma Gandhi University, Mahatma Gandhi University Library, Kerala Library Association, Kottayam Region, Govt. College, Kottayam.

The event aimed to discuss the importance of Software Freedom today. Dr Binoy AA, Assistant Professor, IMPSS, Mahatma Gandhi University, gave a great talk titled “Encrypted Freedom: The Philosophy of Resistance in the Dark Web.” His informative presentation made everyone think about digital privacy and security.

Following Dr Binoy, Dr Vimal Kumar V., the Assistant Librarian at Mahatma Gandhi University, gave a talk titled “Unleashing Debian 13 Trixie.” He introduced the latest version of the Debian operating system, highlighting its new features.

Sri. Tony Antony, President, DAKF, Kottayam District, expressed a vote of thanks. The program finished at 12:30 PM. Sixty-six people attended the programme.
