“In today’s context, it’s connection that matters more than collection,”- accentuates Fr. John Neelankavil, while speaking on the transformative vision he has brought to library environments. This philosophy has guided the recent successful renovation of the MGU library, which now stands as a testament to innovative design principles aimed at attracting patrons.
Fr. John, a CMI priest serving as the librarian at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru, has been instrumental in implementing creative concepts for over 90 libraries across educational institutions nationwide. With a Ph.D. in Space Management focusing on selected university libraries in South India, Fr. John has been actively involved in shaping modern library spaces since 2003.
In the contemporary context, the focus should shift from merely accumulating books and shelves to crafting inviting and comfortable environments that foster sustained engagement with knowledge. Fr. John underscores the importance of recognising libraries as fertile grounds for cultivating ideas, advocating for their prioritised development.
The newly revitalised atmosphere at the MGU library is anticipated to attract more students, according to Fr. John. This sentiment was echoed during an academic audit programme held to evaluate current library facilities and solicit suggestions for further improvement.
During the event, Vice-Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar extended honours to Fr. John and architect Ajith Jose Kurian. Syndicate members Dr. Biju Pushpan and Dr. A. Jose, Exam Controller Dr. C.M.
